Magickal Herbalism: 3 Day Immersion | October 5, 12, 19, 2026
A Three-Day Magickal Immersion
Magickal Herbalism is a three-day immersion exploring the historical, cultural, and spiritual relationships between people and plants. Rooted in ethnobotany, folklore, and traditional ritual practices, this immersion invites participants to study herbs not only as natural remedies, but as sacred allies woven into spiritual life across cultures and time.
This immersion focuses on how plants have been used in ritual, magic, and spiritual practice throughout history. Drawing from European folk traditions, earth-based spirituality, and cross-cultural plant lore, participants will deepen their understanding of herbs as carriers of meaning, story, and symbolic power.
This is not a clinical herbalism course. Instead, it is an exploration of the ways humans have historically worked with plants for protection, healing, divination, transformation, and connection to the sacred.
This immersion emphasizes cultural respect and historical awareness in the study of traditional plant practices.
Day One: Ethnobotany and the Witch Jar
We begin by exploring the ethnobotanical roots of magickal herbalism and the historical use of plants in ritual, protection, and spiritual practice. Through folklore, cultural context, and traditional plant symbolism, participants will learn how herbs have long been used to guard, cleanse, and anchor intention.
Drawing from historic witch bottles and protective charms, participants will craft a herbal spell jar using plant materials, symbols, and intention. This jar serves as a modern interpretation of traditional protective magic, informed by history and personal meaning.
Participants leave with a completed herbal spell jar.
Day Two: Plant Symbolism and Protective Amulets
Day Two focuses on plant symbolism and the traditional ways herbs have been worn, carried, or placed on the body for protection and spiritual support. We will explore how different cultures have used roots, seeds, fibers, and botanicals to create charms, bundles, and amulets.
Participants will create a protective charm or amulet using natural materials such as herbs, fibers, stones, and botanicals. Emphasis is placed on material choice, symbolism, and intention, allowing each piece to be both historically informed and personally meaningful.
Participants leave with a handmade protective amulet or charm.
Day Three: Scent, Smoke, and Ritual Oils
The final day explores the role of scent in spiritual practice and how herbs have been used to awaken the senses, shift energy, and alter spiritual states. We will examine the historical and cultural use of aromatic plants in ritual, including burning practices, incense, resins, and smoke magic, as well as the energetic influence of scent on memory, emotion, and vibration.
Participants will create a personal ritual oil informed by plant lore and intention, while also exploring incense blending and other traditional methods of working with aromatic herbs. The immersion closes with a ritual honoring the plants, the senses, and the subtle ways scent carries meaning and power.
Participants leave with a ritual oil and an expanded understanding of scent-based magic.
Herbs We’ll Explore
Throughout the immersion, we will work with a selection of herbs that have long histories of ritual, spiritual, and cultural use. These may include, but are not limited to:
Mugwort
Rosemary
Lavender
Sage
Yarrow
Rose
Thyme
Bay
Chamomile
