Explore the fundamentals of gel plate printmaking in this hands-on workshop, no prior experience necessary. Participants will learn how to create layered monoprints using a reusable gel printing plate, acrylic paints, and a brayer. Through guided demonstrations and practice, students will develop an understanding of color layering, texture creation, pattern building, and composition.
The class will introduce a variety of mark-making techniques using stencils, found objects, and natural materials such as leaves and feathers to create unique visual effects. Students will experiment with the printmaking process, discover how successive layers interact, and gain confidence in developing original abstract imagery.
Gel plate printing is an accessible and versatile printmaking method that encourages creative exploration while teaching key artistic concepts related to color, texture, and design. By the end of the class, participants will have a collection of one-of-a-kind prints and a foundation for continuing their printmaking practice at home.
All materials will be provided. Please wear old clothing or bring a smock, as acrylic paint may stain fabric.
